Philip Graf took office on May 1 as the new Chair of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
At the same time, the NMC bids farewell and thanks to Dame Janet Finch on completion of her term as Chair and to Maureen Morgan who has completed two terms as a registrant Council member.
Council member Robert Parry has also been reappointed for a further three years, fulfilling the requirement for the Council to have at least one member from Scotland.
Chair of the Council, Philip Graf, said:
“I am delighted to take up this role and look forward to building on the excellent work of my predecessor, Dame Janet Finch. Under her leadership the NMC has made considerable strides towards becoming the dynamic forward thinking regulator we aim to be. We’re indebted to Dame Janet for the invaluable contribution she has made.
“I also want to express our considerable thanks to Maureen Morgan, who leaves having devoted five years to the Council. Her professional expertise, commitment and dedication will be a hard act to follow.
“I am also pleased to confirm that the Council will continue to benefit from the expertise of Rob Parry, who has been reappointed to the Council to serve a further term as a registrant member.”
The Council is made up of six lay and six registrant members, including at least one from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Members are appointed by the Privy Council and can be reappointed for a second term, subject to satisfactory performance.
Recruitment to the vacancy left by Maureen Morgan is currently underway and is open to nurses and midwives from all four countries of the UK with a current registration.
