Tommy’s, the pregnancy and baby charity, has appointed Dr Jyotsna Vohra, pictured, to a newly-created role as Director of Research, Programmes and Impact.
Jyotsna joins Tommy’s from the Royal Society for Public Health, where she has spent three years as Director of Policy and Communications. Prior to that, she established and led the Cancer Policy Research Centre at Cancer Research UK, delivering evidence and supporting interventions to reduce preventable cancers.
Kath Abrahams, Chief Executive of Tommy’s, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Jyotsna to Tommy’s. Her knowledge and experience will be invaluable in accelerating progress towards our goal of making pregnancy and birth safe for everyone.
“Like all of us at Tommy’s, she is passionate about tackling the inequities that leave some groups of women and birthing people at higher risk of pregnancy complications and loss.”
Jyotsna’s career to date includes a role as Research Manager at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, raising awareness of the inequities and research gaps that affect child health.
Jyotsna, who has a PhD in molecular biology and is a Trustee of Moorfields Eye Charity, said: “I am hugely excited to be taking on this new role at a crucial time for Tommy’s, working with a fantastic and committed team in support of a cause that means so much to me personally.
“I’m looking forward to using my experience and skills to drive forward impactful research and ensure it makes a real difference in improving maternal health and saving babies’ lives.”
