Private mammography clinic, Gemeinschaftspraxis für Diagnostische Radiologie und Nuklearmedizin, have launched the first German mobile screening unit equipped with Sectra MicroDose Mammography.

The distance and time required to reach a fixed centre is one of the obstacles women face when attending a mammography session. By offering mobile screening, participation rates can be improved.

President of Sectra’s mammography operations Jesper Södwerqvist said: “The unique characteristics of our mammography system, such as detector stability and robustness, have been proven in clinical practice at mobile installations over the past three years.”

Sectra’s mobile solution is in use in Denmark, the UK, Ireland, Australia and now also in Germany.

Mammography screening is the best method for early breast cancer detection. Breast tissue is sensitive to radiation, and it is therefore crucial that the dose is as low as possible. This is especially important in mammography screening, which involves examination of a large number of healthy women. With superior image quality, Sectra’s mammography system, Sectra MicroDose Mammography, generates by far the lowest dose of radiation of all of the systems offered on the market. Sectra MicroDose Mammography is based on patented photon counting technology.

MicroDose Mammography has already been installed at numerous hospitals and clinics in 17 European countries as well as in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. It is pending FDA approval.
