Genus Medical Fertility, a purpose built clinic for reproductive healthcare, has officially opened its doors in Edinburgh, marking a new chapter in Scotland’s reproductive healthcare.
Located at Shawfair Business Park, the state-of-the-art facility represents a major investment in specialised fertility care, bringing together advanced embryology technology, clinical research, and a human-first philosophy, designed to support patients through every stage of their fertility journey.
Founded by Dr. Karolina Skorupskaite Carlyle, a Consultant in Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecology, Genus Medical Fertility will reshape reproductive care through a human first approach rooted in innovation, expertise and individualised treatment.
Moving away from the traditional one-size-fits-all approach, the clinic offers tailored treatment pathways built around each patient’s unique medical history and future goals.
This includes All-In-One Fertility Assessments, which allow patients to complete consultations and diagnostic testing on the same day, reducing waiting times and the stress often associated with reproductive care.
Dr. Karolina Skorupskaite Carlyle, Founder of Genus Medical Fertility, said: “The opening of Genus is an incredibly proud moment for our team. We set out to create more than just a medical facility, we wanted to build a space where people feel welcomed, understood, and supported during what is often the most vulnerable time of their lives.
“Every fertility journey is unique, and whether someone is assessing their options for the future or trying to grow their family now, they deserve expert care that is personal and grounded in the very latest scientific advancements.”
The clinic’s launch is underpinned by a heavyweight leadership team with decades of international experience. Karen Thompson joins as Embryology Director and HFEA Person Responsible, bringing nearly 30 years of expertise from senior roles at leading UK fertility centres. Her background in overseeing major developments in IVF laboratory practice, including blastocyst culture, vitrification, time-lapse embryo imaging and the introduction of preimplantation genetic testing services, ensures that Genus Medical Fertility operates at the forefront of global embryology.
Thompson is also joined by Nurse Manager Riikka Kirk, who brings 25 years of experience across the NHS and private sectors, specialising in surrogacy programmes and inclusive women’s health.
Further strengthening the clinical offering is Quality Manager and Clinical Embryologist Andrew Browne. A clinical scientist with a PhD in Biomedicine, Browne combines academic research with hands-on embryology to ensure that every patient receives care that is safe and evidence-led.
Together, this multidisciplinary team provides a comprehensive suite of services, including IVF, ICSI, preimplantation genetic testing, egg, sperm and embryo freezing by choice, recurrent miscarriage assessment and management, and advanced sperm selection techniques.
Beyond its patient services, Genus Medical Fertility is positioned to become a Scottish hub for specialist training and professional development. Through investing in pioneering laboratory methodologies and advanced embryology technology, the clinic aims to raise the bar for fertility care nationwide, ensuring that patients in Scotland, and those traveling from further afield to Genus Medical Fertility, have access to the latest breakthroughs in reproductive medicine.
