National Swedish study to examine Covid-19 impact on pregnancy

A new national study initiated from the University of Gothenburg, covering a majority of Sweden’s birth centres, is focusing on how Covid-19 affects pregnancy and fetal development. The COPE (Covid-19 in Pregnancy and Early Childhood) study was initiated by Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg and Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Stress during pregnancy can affect fetal development

Stress hormones in the mother can affect fetal development, according to a study published today in The Journal of Physiology To test whether high stress levels in pregnant mice had an impact on the fetal development of their offspring, pregnant mice received the natural glucocorticoid corticosterone at different times during pregnancy, either from day 11 to 16 (20 females), from day 14-19 (31 females), or not at all (74 control females).
