The NMC has announced the appointment of Claire Johnston as its newest registrant Council member from 1 September 2018.
Announcing the appointment, Chair, Philip Graf said: “It’s a great pleasure to welcome Claire to the NMC. Claire joins us at an important time, as the organisation drives forward an ambitious programme of work. I know that her knowledge and expertise will be a valuable addition to the Council and we look forward to working with her to protect the public.”
Commenting on her appointment, Claire Johnston said: “I am excited to be joining the NMC at this critical point. The Council’s strategic reform programme is ambitious and in step with the fast pace of change in our professions. I’m looking forward to playing my part to ensure every registrant can provide the highest standard of safe practice for our public throughout the UK.”
Claire is currently Project Director of CapitalNurse in North London, a programme set up to ensure there are the right number of nurses, with the right skills, delivering excellent care. Claire has spent her nursing career in community, acute and mental health roles and was a director of nursing for 20 years, most recently at Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. She was previously national advisor in primary care and community nursing at the Royal College of Nursing, where she was seconded to the Department of Health to work on community care reforms. She is an honorary clinical professor of nursing at Middlesex University and is chair of Kidstime, a charity working to support the children of parents with mental illness.
