Lec Medical launches Neonatal innovation

Promotional feature

Medical refrigeration specialist Lec Medical has unveiled its innovative new Neonatal range, designed to preserve the nutritional, immunological and antioxidant qualities of breast milk.

Developed to fulfil specific guidelines set out by the NHS and The Breastfeeding Network, the Neonatal refrigeration range will help NHS staff ensure the breastmilk of nursing mothers is stored safely and securely within the optimum temperature range to support babies’ health.

Lec’s Neonatal range has been uniquely designed to meet globally recognised guidance on the optimum conditions for storage, and on creating an environment which is safe and secure.

Following a successful trial with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, where the product was thoroughly tested by the hospital’s busy neonatal ward, the product has now been launched.

The range, which comprises a 158-litre countertop fridge, a 47-litre countertop fridge and a 39-litre countertop freezer, operates within the extremely tight temperature ranges advised by the NHS, UNICEF, CDC and others.

Lec’s Neonatal fridges operate within +2°C to +4°C, whilst the Neonatal freezer operates within the recommended temperature range of -18°C to -25°C, ensuring the maximum lifespan and safety of frozen breast milk.

These precise temperature ranges are guaranteed by the inclusion of a dual probe temperature monitoring system, pioneered by Lec Medical.

The first probe monitors the internal temperature of the fridge, while a second probe sits within a silicon oil formulated to mimic the breast milk stored inside.

The Neonatal range offers unique organisational features designed to make the storage of breast milk simpler and safer, such as integrated slide-out drawers and shelf dividers which allow the breast milk of each individual patient to be separately organised and stored.

An integrated digital lock ensures only authorised staff have access to the breast milk stored inside the fridge or freezer and Lec Medical’s digitally controlled temperature display screen makes temperature reading quick and simple.

The Neonatal fridges also feature a Bluetooth enabled controller for contactless local temperature monitoring and reporting – reducing the risk of human error and saving staff time.

Fridge temperature reports and alarm history can be instantly accessed and shared with authorised staff members on a smartphone or tablet, via the official Lec Medical app.

Peter Sanders, Business Unit Manager for Lec Medical, said: “Our new Neonatal refrigeration range has been carefully designed with the health and safety of babies at its heart, offering reassurance to nursing mothers and practical support to the NHS staff who care for them. We’ve created a set of products that offer pinpoint temperature accuracy, security and ease of use for the busy nursing staff on neonatal wards.”
